On Sunday after dropping them off at the airport I drove home in a silent empty car and realized how much I missed having them with me after 2 fun-filled weeks on the road sharing their company.
The very next day life in Alaska started in earnest as Mario and I flew 4 hours west to the village of Togiak and spent the next few days working on airplanes there. I was able to see what real Alaska is like and feel the cold of Bristol Bay fog which only hinted of a colder winter which is yet to come. The last couple of months have been challenging to be honest as can be expected with a move to any new location. However I have seen God's hand continuing to guide and lead me in every difficult situation. I am glad that I am here in Alaska! Here is a look at how wel Alaska has lived up to my preconceived ideas:
Huge Open Land
- Isolated (Except for the big cities, Like Wasilla and Anchorage where I am headed)
- Alaska is surely a wide open land. There are mountains to the north and to the east of uswhich stretch as far as the eye can see. To the south is the ocean and to the westare more mountains. after crossing the seat in the river to the west there are no more roads and the only way to get anywhere is by aircraft.
- Lonely (I will miss my family and so many of my good friends : (
- loneliness, well I do miss my family and my dear friends very cutely. But I have made some very close friends here in Alaska also.we had some awesome time during friday night desperate, climbing the butte, climbing madden use to pete, and fun game nights at Matt and Trina's house.I am grateful for the friends that God has placed in my life you're a Laska.
- Majestic
- just take a look at some of the pictures
- Opportunity to Learn
- I have learned how to service aircraft breaks, helped change airplane engines, and many other things.I have experienced my first solo flight.and I have the opportunity to fly with people who use Aviationas a very real part of their lives. Their mentor ship is invaluable to me.
- Opportunity to Serve, and Love People
- I still don't know the effect of my interactions from day to day with some of the people in god puts me in contact with. but I pray austin that god will use my life to encourage the people that I work with and that I see from time to time.sometimes I contrast my experience here with my experience in the Philippines where I was directly involved in ministry. being here has taught me that my relationship with Jesus is the basis for my witness to other people irregardless of being designated as a missionary or not.
- Less regulations ( I hope my car doesn't have to pass emissions test to be registered)
- I don't know if there are less regulations or not.there seems to be just about as much red tape here as anywhere else in the world. However I did successfully managed to navigate through getting miners thing license here in alaska!
- Fun loving people (to live in Alaska, you have to have a pretty resilient attitude!)
- the people that I have met here are some of the most resilient and fun loving people that I have matt. New most of them are always up for a good hike.the positive cheerful encouraging attitude so many of my friends has given me a boost after several stressful days.
I'm definitely privileged to be here in Alaska. I'm excited for the experiences that are ahead.with such good friends, stunning surroundings, and a God who knows everything before I need it, I I know that I have more excellent experience is to look forward to you here in Alaska!
