Update

Dear Friends and Family,

I want to send you a quick note about some of the encouragements that
I had this last week and some requests for prayer.

I spent Tuesday through Friday of this last week in Emrang. Friday
morning I don't usually stay in Emrang, but this time one of the
families had promised to go up into the jungle to cut saplings for
the roof of the school, so I wanted to be sure that I was there. I
also relished a chance to go into the cool, shady forest of giant
trees about a half mile above our village! So Friday morning we cut
about 8 poles for the roof and carried 3 of them down, leaving the
others to be retrieved later. It took all morning from 9 am to 1pm.
I'm starting to see how much work actually goes into a building like
this! The Father and his son that took me up into the forest said,
"Probably when you come back we will have the framework for the roof
done!" So that is encouraging.

My main objective besides teaching school and running a clinic right
now is to help the people of that valley to see the importance of the
Bible. To the Palawanos the traditions and ways that their parents
have taught them are very important. The old way of doing things is
very important. In fact, a very old man once told me that their
traditions were actually placed into the first people at the very
beginning by God himself. There is not yet a palawano Bible in the
valley where I live but I keep telling people about God's word which
contains, in writing, the actual ways that God imparted to their, and
my, ancestors. I explain to them that we have all forgotten some of
those ways and that we must read the Bible to learn how to really
follow what God's way. People seem to agree to this. I asked one of
my friends, Kenderet, if he would build a box to keep our Bible safe
in the even that we actually were to get a palawano Bible. He agreed
and proceeded to describe exactly how he would make it! I believe
that their is a hunger for the truth that i spurred by a knowledge
that their is something missing. Please pray that they will yearn to
study God's word.

Also please join me in praying for these specific individuals:

Kenderet - very interested in studying the Bible
Dading - energetic leader who wants to learn
Luniu - a neighbor who hasn't showed much interest
Durkinu - another neighbor who seems to have a lot of pride

Pray that they will all see the need to surrender their lives to the
control of their maker.

Thank you for supporting me even as you each continue to serve God in
your individual places.

In His service,

Brian

1 John 3:17,18
"But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and
shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed
and in truth."
